Каждые два месяца самостоятельный институт ИТ-безопасности AV-Test проводит тестирование популярных антивирусов и программных пакетов ради полной защиты ПК, проверяя их эффективность разными способами. Конечный результат тестирования в сентябре и октябре 2012 г. плачевно закончился по отношению к антивирусу Microsoft Security Essentials.


   Эта "утилита"не смогла показать результаты, удовлетворительные для получения сертификата AV-Test чтобы работать под Windows 7. Более того, это единственная "утилита", которой не удалось получить сертификат. Однако остальные антивирусы, в том числе бесплатные Avast, AVG и Panda Cloud, успешно справились с тестированием. Максимальный следствие по уровню защиты 6.0/6.0 показали четыре программы: Bitdefender: Internet Security 2013 F-Secure: Internet Security G Data: InternetSecurity 2013 Trend Micro: Titanium Maximum Security 2013 У «Антивируса Касперского» показатели равны 5,5 из 6,0. Ради сравнения, программы Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 и 4.1 удостоились оценки только лишь 1,5 балла сообразно шестибалльной шкале, которая и послужило причиной потери сертификата, хоть они лучше всех остальных проявили себя сообразно показателю «Юзабилити», набрав 5,5 баллов из шести возможных - главным образом, ради счёта отсутствия ложных срабатываний. Однако эксперты AV-Test посчитали, что возможно даже очень способный антивирус с минимальным количеством ложных срабатываний невозможно рекомендовать пользователям, если он обеспечивает неприемлемо дешевый уровень защиты. Подробные результаты тестирования Microsoft Security Essentials показывают, в каком тесте он проявил себя хуже всего: защита от 0-day атак, угроз в вебе и вредоносных вложений в электронной почте. Это тест напротив актуальных угроз (Real World Tesing), очень главный тест среди всех тестов. При беглой проверке на 102 свежих (только что обнаруженных) образцах антивирусы в среднем отлавливали 89%, в тот период как Microsoft Security Essentials обнаружил только 69% в сентябре и 64% в октябре - меньше всех. Не весьма хорошо Microsoft Security Essentials вылавливал зловредов, которые появились в последние 2-3 месяца: показатель только 90% при среднем показателе сообразно рынку 97%. Здесь тест осуществлялся на базе из 272 799 образцов. Помимо тестирования защиты и оценки юзабилити, эксперты AV-Test оценивали ещё и эффективность антивирусов в лечении инфицированной системы, в том числе удалении руткитов, кракозябров и других активных компонентов вирусов, обнаружении скрытых процессов в системе, восстановлении модифицированных критических системных файлов. В этом отношении лучшим в сентябре-октябре снова признан Bitdefender: Internet Security 2013 с максимальным показателем 6,0 из 6,0.

Detailed results of testing Microsoft Security Essentials show, in what test it has proved worst of all: protection against 0-day attacks, threats in a web and harmful investments in e-mail. It is the test against actual threats (Real World Tesing), the most important test among all tests. At check on 102 fresh samples antiviruses on the average caught 89 % while Microsoft Security Essentials has found out only 69 % in September and 64 % in October — most less.
